Attendance

Students are expected to attend all classes every day. Students who were absent must bring a written note from a parent or guardian stating the reason and date for the absence. Students without a legitimate excuse are truant and will face appropriate consequences. All absences will be considered unexcused if the office does not receive a valid note within three days of the student’s return to school.

Jefferson School works closely with the District Attorney’s Office to enforce all state attendance regulations and to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to attend school regularly. Please note the following policies regarding absences and tardies:

Three tardies are equal to one day of unexcused absence.

 

Three unexcused absences are equal to one day of truancy.

The parents of students who acquire 15 days of unexcused absences in a school year, or 10 days of unexcused absences in a trimester, will be summoned to meet with a representative from the District Attorney’s Office and will be enrolled in the Abolish Chronic Truancy (ACT) attendance monitoring program.
The parents of students who are enrolled in the ACT program, but who continue to accumulate unexcused absences will be summoned to attend an individual meeting with a representative from the District Attorney’s Office, where a School Attendance Review Team (SART) contract will be established.
If attendance for students on a SART contract does not improve, parents will be called before the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) and a range on consequences may be instituted.
